Jay Williams Signs With The Nets
September 29, 2006
Jay Williams has sign with the New Jersey Nets. The contract he has sign is not guaranteed so he really has to play well to stick with the team. Since the Nets have Marcus Williams their will be a load of competition between those two for minutes.
Jay Williams has stated that he respect Marcus Williams and thinks he will be an all star one day but he is going to fight him as has a possible for minutes. Since the Nets are not really deep at the guard position I see them both getting a lot of minutes. Kidd is getting older and I am sure they will try to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
Hopefully he can play well and stick with the team. They can’t just rely on the big three Kidd, Carter, and RJ to get it done this season so he looks like a good fit.
Bonzi Wells Signs With Houston
September 28, 2006
Bonzi Wells, the last top notch free agent left on the market has finally signed a new deal after a long summer. He signed a 2 year deal worth $5 million. Wells wanted a long term deal worth around $50 million but teams were not willing to pay that much for his services so he decided to take the shorter deal.
He has a player option to opt out next summer so if he plays good he can probably get close to that $50 million next summer. On paper it looks like he selected a great team to play for because he can get minutes with the Rockets and if(when?) McGrady gets hurt he can step up and show people what he can really do.
Deals like can be good and bad for a player because of injuries. If Wells gets hurt or just has a poor season he will be wishing he took the $30 to $40 million Sacramento was offering him.
Boston Celtics Season Preview
September 26, 2006
The Celtics still have Paul Pierce but the rest of their team is very young and I don’t expect them to get far. With Telfair, Wally, and Pierce playing the first three spots they should get some good scoring but with those young guys upfront and a weak bench those three guys have to score a combine 60 to 70 points if they want a win. That means when one of those guys has an off night the Celtics won’t really have any scorers to step up.
With so many young guys on the team they have the pieces to pull off a good trade. I expect they will do something before the trading deadline to get a veteran that can play in the frontcourt.

NBA Previews Atlanta Hawks
September 24, 2006
The season is a little over a month away and their are a lot of teams to review and a lot of predictions to make so I need to get started.
The Atlanta Hawks have a very young team once again this year. They will improve but I don’t see them making the playoffs. Their starting 5 should be Claxton, Joe Johnson, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and Zaza Pachulia.
The biggest key to this team picking up more wins then last year is point guard play and defense. If Claxton can get the right people the ball at the right time they will be able to score lots of points. They can’t just score though, they have to stop people. Josh Smith is their most athletic player and he should be able to lead them on the defensive end.
I see Josh Smith having a breakout year for the Hawks. He should be the second option behind Joe Johnson. Don’t forget about players like Shelden Williams from Duke and Salim Stoudamire who had a great rookie season.
The won’t make the playoffs but they will win more games and make things difficult for some of the leagues top teams.
Wagner Deal worth around $1.5 million
September 23, 2006
More information about the Dajaun Wagner deal came out today. The deal is around $1.5 million for 2 years. He will be paid $798,122 the first year, the minimum for a fourth year player. That is guaranteed. The second year is partially guaranteed.
Dajuan Wagner to sign with Golden State
September 22, 2006
After being out of the league having everyone wondering where he was, Dajuan Wagner will be back in the NBA next season with the Golden State Warriors. He has agreed to sign a two year deal with the team. With Baron Davis and Jason Richardson holding down the back court he could be the sixth man but with Don Nelson coaching he could end up starting with J. Rich playing the three.
The salary was not disclosed but the deal is short enough for him to prove himself and get a larger deal in two years. If he can stay healthy he will help the Warriors and down the line help himself and his family.
Slam College Preview
September 20, 2006
With three future first round picks on their team, one of which should have left for the NBA this past summer, the Florida Gators is the team Slam thinks will win it all.
Their overall top twenty is looking pretty good. The team everyone is looking forward to seeing, the Ohio State Buckeyes came in 5th. Most likely due to their youth and Gred Odens injury.
A team I thought was a little lower than it would have been at number seven was Georgetown. They have a legit seven footer with Hibbert and a solid swingman with Jeff Green. I expect them to make a lot of noise.
I also look forward to seeing more of the Badgers. Since I am in Wisconsin I have heard a lot about Travon Hughes, so I am anxious to see that guy play.
In the end my pick to win is to be determined. I will have to do some more research before I can commit.
Marbury’s New Kicks
September 17, 2006
I have heard a lot about Stephon Marbury’s new sneakers the last few weeks and it is good that a player is stepping back to endorse a cheaper line of shoes. Although I am curious to see how the shoes will hold up in a game. Marbury said he will wear them next season so I guess we will see.
Marbury is trying to rebuild his image which has been going downhill since he left Minnesota. Because of that Marbury has been with several of the top shoe companies and now that they don’t want him he is accepting what he can get. I don’t really think it is about him helping kids in the hood out by giving them a cheaper alternative but as long as he is happy and the parents that buy the shoes are happy, then so am I.
Baron Davis Motivated
September 16, 2006
Baron Davis has one of the best coaches in the NBA coming in to help him and the Golden State Warrior improve and he plans to take advantage. When he first came to the Warriors at the end of the 04-05 season everyone was talking about how they would make the playoffs in 05-06 but they did not.
With the injures and the pressure that was put on them they failed. Baron is motivated to go out and meet his goals. He knows that he has a chance to play for a coach that has done great things with Tim Hardaway and Steve Nash and he wants the same. Nelson made a statement saying he though Baron was too heavy. Baron responded to that in a positive manner which show how mature he has become and how motivated he is to improve this coming season.
