Evaluations Of Some Of The Picks And Trades In The 2008 NBA Draft
June 27, 2008
Bobcats: They took DJ Augustin with the 9th pick when they already have Raymond Felton although they were trying to move Felton before the draft. With the 20th pick they should have tried to get some frontcourt help but they took a foreign guy that probably won’t play in the league for a few years.
Bulls: The drafted Derrick Rose who I think is overrated and then the draft Sonny Weems in the second round. Why draft Weems when you are already stacked with guards?
Pacers: They trade Jermaine O Neal for TJ Ford giving the 3 point guards, then they draft a point guard and trade him to Portland for Jarrett Jack, another PG and Brandon Rush. Now they have 4 point guards. At least they were able to get a Center to replace O’Neal by drafting Roy Hibbert.
Memphis: Man they are idiots, they drafted Love and traded him, Mike Miller, and Brain Cardinal for Mayo, Antoine Walker, Greg Buckner, and Marco Jaric. So they traded two players, Love and Miller, for one, Mayo and they took back two bad contract with Buckner and Jaric but at least Walker will be gone after the season is over. Another problem is that they have too many guards. Rudy can play the 3 and Mayo the 2 then they have Jaric, Conley, Lowry, and Crittenton to fight for the PG spot.
Milwaukee: They stole Jefferson from the Bucks without really giving up anything but then they draft two small forwards. I pretty much knew they wanted the guy from WVU the last couple of weeks but after trading for Jefferson why the hell did they pick him. They should have taken big guy.
Minnesota: They were able to turn Mayo in to Love and Mike Miller. I think Love is going to be a bust but all the experts think he will be a solid player, if he is he and Jefferson will get the Wolves back on track.
New Jersey: They traded Richard Jefferson for Yi and Bobby Simmons, do I need to say more.
Portland: They traded Jarrett Jack away for Bayless. Bayless is a better player but needs to improve his PG skills a bit more. He may be sitting behind Steve Blake for the first few weeks of the season before taking over starting PG full time.
